With its well-extended national parks and 130 km of wonderful coasts, Abruzzo is undoubtedly one of the best regions to spend a camping holiday. It features a well-preserved natural environment that earned it the title of Europe’s Green Region. In this fabled land, you will have a chance to admire a landscape unique in Italy, with Gran Sasso and Majella’s snow-capped peaks being well visible even from Pescara’s sun-drenched beaches.
A highly clean sea kisses Abruzzo’s shoreline, and many regional beaches were awarded the Blue Flag. Sea towns are dotted with campsites, villages and several well-equipped beaches. Vasto is one of the region’s most renowned destinations and boasts a beautiful historic center as well as sweet beaches of fine sand and clear waters highly appreciated by families with kids.
Roseto degli Abruzzi is very popular among young people: a wealth of night clubs and beautiful golden beaches are the key ingredient for a holiday filled with sun, sea and fun. Warmly recommended is also Spiaggia d’Argento (Silver Beach) of Alba Adriatica that was awarded the Blue Flag.
However, the real treasures of Abruzzo’s coasts are natural beaches and protected areas. Worth mentioning is the protected area of Parco Marino del Cerrano (Cerrano Marine Park) in Pineto which is an excellent snorkeling spot. A special mention goes to Casalbordino Lido, a beach offering a breathtaking scenery with pristine waters and picturesque trabocchi, namely ancient stilts used for fishing which have been converted into tiny romantic fish restaurants.
Not far away is Riserva Naturale di Punta Aderci (Punta Aderci Natural Rserve) , also known as “Piccola Normandia (Little Normandy)” because of its characteristic cliffs overlooking the sea. This wonderful protected coastal area is home to rare species and it is possible to spot dolphins and turtles.
